Andersen's was founded in 2005 by Claus Andersen, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. It evolved from Andersen’s Wohnung in Berlin, which began in 1997 as a platform for artistic dialogue. Over the past thirty years, Andersen’s has played a vital role in shaping the contemporary art scene in Copenhagen. This includes initiatives such as the art magazine "Øjeblikket," the renowned art bar Imbiss, and the founding of the largest art fair in Scandinavia, Chart Art Fair. Andersen's has also been involved in advisory roles in art institutions and member of the board at the National Art Foundation.

At Andersen's, we exhibit art that is relevant to our times, sometimes political and radical, always in dialogue with society, aiming to promote a deeper understanding and free exchange of ideas and visions. Our financial independence comes solely from the sales of the art we exhibit.

Andersen's has successfully placed significant installations in various Danish museums by artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Anselm Reyle, Tomas Saraceno, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Martin Brandt Hansen, and Goudipal. Moreover, the gallery has been a key partner in several Venice Biennale Pavilions and has been involved in public commissions, including the upcoming Cloud City Aalborg by Tomas Saraceno, which will be the largest public commission to date in Denmark, opening in 2026.

We take pride in having worked with a diverse range of artists spanning different generations, from Freddie A. Lerche and Albert Mertz to newer voices such as Cecilia Fiona, Martin Brandt Hansen and Farshad Farzankia. We have aimed to be an important platform for new voices in the international art scene.

In 2022, Andersen's appointed Lene Renner as Director and partner to strengthen relationships with artists and clients and to further develop the gallery's platform. Renner's background spans various businesses, primarily in fashion. She spent eleven years at KØS and also founded the fashion brand Sur Le Chemin.

Lastly, a special mention goes to the dedicated and talented staff at Andersen's, especially Kristina Valberg, Thomas Jørgensen, Ane Bülow, Jeanette Lindholf Madsen, Caroline Hjordt,Tina Busck Hansen, Susanne Thygaard, Irene Campolmi, Hannah Parker, Scot Surdez, Matteo Canteralla, Mamie Beth Cary, and Morten Danielsen, for whom I will be forever grateful.

Be nicer than you have to be.
