Little Sun Kiosk (048)

Olafur Eliason

-

On May 10, Andersen’s Contemporary, in collaboration with Little Sun, will open a temporary “exhibition kiosk” in central Copenhagen. The Kiosk will carry Olafur Eliasson and Frederik Ottesen’s Little Sun – a solar-powered lamp developed to bring light to the 1.6 billion people around the world who still do not have access to electricity. Little Sun is a global project based on a social business model, working to spread light to as many people as possible.
Under the concept of “trade not aid”, Little Sun is sold in the Western world at a price that makes it possible to distribute the lamp in off-grid areas at an affordable local price, allowing local retailers to make a profit. In this way, Little Sunsupports the development of small businesses in these regions. Andersen’s Little Sun Kiosk opens at the same time as Little Sun's first retail outlet in Senegal, and by purchasing a lamp from the kiosk, you support the local distribution of Little Sun there.
In addition to lamp sales, various events will take place at the kiosk until June 22, including music performances and more. Throughout the entire exhibition period, visitors can also watch 16 Little Sun films, produced by Tine Fischer from Fischer Film, which have previously been shown at venues including Tate Modern in London.
