Ornamental (091)
Jorge Galindo
-
Andersen´s is pleased to present Jorge Galindo´s first solo exhibition - Ornemental - in the gallery and in Denmark. In the exhibition Ornamental, Jorge Galindo depicts the classic theme of the still life on a monumental scale with a new series of flower paintings.
Over the past thirty years Galindo has made gestural and expressionistic paintings which often synthesizes elements of collage. Using a range of materials, his lush and colorful surfaces are executed in an energetic and sometimes chaotic style. Painted onto canvases with a patchwork quality, Galindo´s bright and energetic painting process renders his subject in a manner that borders on abstraction. The painted flowers in Ornemental can be perceived as a celebration of life at a difficult time, a steadfast defense of the pleasure of painting, and a form of absolute freedom. Galindo has described his own work as “dirty pop”, but his work still represents the classic theme of still life at a monumental scale, with expressionist and abstract touch. Jorge Galindo was born in 1965 in Madrid, Spain. He was trained in the workshops of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. He currently lives and works in Toledo, Spain. Galindo’s work has been exhibited internationally including at the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C.; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA. and at the Hall Art Foundation, Schloss Derneberg.
