The Opening (001)

On April 29, 2005, the gallery Andersen_s opened at Islands Brygge. The gallery owned by Claus Andersen, a trained visual artist from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Over the past ten years, Claus Andersen has run exhibition spaces in both Berlin and Copenhagen alongside his own career as an artist. The idea of opening a gallery in Copenhagen originated from a close dialogue between the Danish/Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and Claus Andersen.
The gallery’s artists are selected with both a national and international perspective in mind. Thus, the gallery represents both Danish and foreign artists. The selected artists include well-established names, such as Olafur Eliasson, who already has an international career, as well as a number of very young artists who are in the process of establishing themselves and have demonstrated strong artistic potential. The gallery presents conceptual art, installation art, painting, photography, video, and performance art. Its artistic profile is focused on young contemporary art with an international outlook.
The gallery opens with a group exhibition introducing all twelve of the gallery’s artists: Kaucyila Brooke (USA), Olafur Eliasson (Iceland / Denmark), Ingen Frygt (Iceland), Søren Jensen (Denmark), Leopold Kessler (Austria), Malene Landgreen (Denmark), Jay Chung and Q Takeki Maeda (USA, Japan), Henrik Olesen (Denmark), Anselm Reyle (Germany), Mia Jo Vo Rosasco (Denmark), Pia Rönicke (Denmark) and Tomas Saraceno (Argentina)
