Three Eleven (080)

Three Eleven, an exhibition of newly created paintings by Landon Metz, specifically conceived for the neo-classical premises of Det Classenske Bibliotek in Copenhagen.

In his work, Metz explores the fundamental properties of materials, chance and repetition. By allowing pigment in the dye to merge with the fibers of his unprimed canvases, each work is the unique result of a particular tension with the medium, almost relinquishing Metz’s own authorship in favour of a material-focused method of painting. For his third exhibition at Andersen’s, Metz has created a new, large body of works consisting of thirty-three paintings, presented in the format of a large installation, which activates the premises that formerly hosted Det Classenske Bibliotek in Copenhagen. Three Eleven further expands on the artist’s exploration of the contextual relationship between space and forms. Rendered in eleven unique colours, Metz’s paintings are installed across the three levels of the gallery space, lining the bookshelves of the library. In their symmetrical and serial patterns, the canvases reflect the structural geometries of the space, for which they have been conceived. Site-responsive rather than site-specific, Metz allows each canvas to function as an independent work, whilst echoing to a holistic experiential environment to which viewers are invited to intimately interact with. -

Landon Metz (b. 1985, Phoenix, USA) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions in Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, US and recently at Museo Pietro Canonica in Rome, Italy. In 2014, Metz was the artist-in-residence at the AND Collection in Bolzano, Italy.
